Mini
and Midi Implants
On
average these implants cost just over half the price of conventional
implants so if you have had a quote for dental implants and could
not afford the treatment it may now be possible to treat you. Please
note that mini and midi implants can only be used when a tooth that
requires replacement has been missing for at least six months.
Originally dental
implants were cylindrical in shape and then over time many changed
to imitate the natural shape of a tooth root. These became know
as root-form dental implants and were conical in shape. The new
mini and midi dental implants have taken this a step further making
the tip of the cone almost pointed and the body of the implant of
varying tapers. This design has two main advantages. The first is
that no surgery is required to place these implants, once the area
is anaesthetised (numb) a small pilot holed is drilled straight
through the soft tissue and into the bone, no cutting of the tissue
is required and therefore no sutures are required either. The implant
is them simply screwed into place making this procedure very quick
and almost painless. Fifty percent of CDIC patients treat this way
do not need to take any painkillers after the implant is placed.
The second design feature is the type of thread on the implant.
This allows for a very tight union between the implant and the bone
thus allowing teeth to be fitted immediately and also because of
its taper it expands the available bone and in many cases allows
implants to be placed in a reduced volume of bone without having
to go through separate bone augmentation procedures.
Mini
and Midi implants can be used for supporting both teeth and dentures.
