Bridges are used where teeth are missing and the option
of dental implants has been discounted. The teeth, either
side of the gap, are prepared in the same way as a crown,
impressions taken and the bridge made at the laboratory.
As the name suggests, the gap is bridged with an additional
tooth or teeth attached to the crowns fitting either
side of the gap. Like crowns, bridges were conventionally
made from porcelain bonded to metal, but now more modern
and aesthetically pleasing all ceramic zirconium based
bridges are available.
