Mrs
D was referred from her own dentist via a telephone call requesting
an emergency appointment. Mrs D, who deals with the public all day,
had fracture the heavily restored crown off her upper right lateral
incisor tooth and due to the way it had fractured it was not possible
to place a new crown onto this tooth, the result was a very unsightly
gap. Mrs D therefore had the choice of wearing a denture, of drilling
down more of her teeth to be able to place a bridge or to place
a dental implant. Not wanting to wear a denture or to have more
of her teeth drilled away she opted for a dental implant.
Mrs D was seen
at CDIC and impressions taken to construct a temporary crown. Ten
days later the fractured root was removed, a dental implant placed
immediately into the extraction socket and the temporary crown fitted
providing Mrs D with a very quick, although temporary, solution
to her problem. Once healing had taken place, which normally takes
about three months, the temporary crown was removed, adjustments
made to the part of the implant supporting the temporary crown and
a new permanent crown fitted. At the same time Mrs D’s own
dentist replaced the adjacent crown which was also failing.
Mrs D now has
a replacement tooth which she treats exactly the same as her natural
teeth.
The
cost of Mrs D’s implant treatment (not including the crown
on the adjacent tooth) if it had been carried out today would be
£2,130.00
