CASE
5 – Lower anterior bridge
Mrs K from Yarm
born 1945
Mrs
K was referred to CDIC as she had one very loose and three quite
loose lower anterior teeth and it was felt that the long term prognosis
for these teeth was very poor. Mrs K’s own dentist was asked
to remove these teeth and provide her with a temporary denture.
As there was infection round these teeth a period of six weeks was
allowed after extraction before two dental implants were placed
where the four teeth had previously been. The first photograph shows
the healing abutments in place and the second one how the denture
fits over these. The final photograph shows a four unit (tooth)
bridge supported by the two fixtures. The new teeth look very long
but they are only as long as Mrs K’s original teeth. With
her lower lip in its normal position though, only the incisal edges
are visible and they look perfectly natural.

| Following
surgery healing abutments have been fitted. |
Mrs
K’s temporary denture has been adjusted to allow her
to wear it over the healing abutments. |

finished result showing four teeth supported by the two
dental implants |
In
normal use only the tops of the very long teeth are visible
and look perfectly natural. |
The
cost of Mrs K’s treatment if it had been carried out today
would be £4,500.
