CASE
3 - Multiple upper anterior teeth
Mrs
M from Marton born 1960
Mrs
M had lost many of her upper teeth at a very young age and had persevered
with dentures since then. She was referred to CDIC by her own dentist
as she wanted her life to be as normal as possible. Mrs M was reluctant
to smile and when she did she covered her mouth with her hand, she
did not like eating certain foods in public and wanted to be able
to do things like scuba diving without having to worry that her
teeth might fall out or break.
Four
dental implants were placed in the front of Mrs M’s mouth
and one either side behind her first premolar teeth and these were
restored with all ceramic crowns to give a very life like appearance.

A
wonderful smile that Mrs M is no longer afraid to show |
Mrs
M’s treatment was complicated due to the length of time that
her teeth had been missing. Over this time period a large volume
of bone had been lost and there was insufficient bone to carry out
dental implant treatment. It was therefore necessary during the
placement of the four anterior implants to graft bone into the surgical
site. Her upper left posterior implant site was not suitable for
implant placement and this was augmented and left to mature for
six months before it was possible to place an implant in this position.
This delayed the finished result but Mrs M was more than willing
to wait this short period of extra time to have her the rest of
her life changed.
The
cost of Mrs M’s treatment if it had been carried out today
would be £12,000.
