CASE
16 – Single lower anterior tooth using a mini implant
Mr.
T from Marton.
Mr
T was referred to CDIC as he had a very loose lower front tooth
that was going to be lost fairly soon. Examination also showed that
other teeth were becoming loose. The loose tooth was extracted and
a temporary stick on bridge fitted to allow the socket to heal.
Whilst healing was taking place Mr T was referred to a periodontal
(gum) specialist to treat the gums round his other teeth.

|
| Note
how little gum there is
round the lower front tooth |
Following
extraction the remaining
ridge is very narrow |
Because
the tooth had almost no bone holding it in place, once healing was
complete, the ridge that had supported the tooth was now very narrow.
Without special bone augmentation procedures it would have been
impossible to place a conventional dental implant into the site
and so it was decided to use a mini implant because of its very
small size.
Replacement
of a lower incisor tooth is one of the classic cases for the use
of mini implants.

 |
The
new tooth still appears very long with the lips pulled
right back (as his original tooth was) but this is never
seen and overall the new tooth fills the gap perfectly.
|
Mr T and his
wife both have dental implants and both are so appreciative of what
CDIC has done for them.
The
cost of Mr T’s treatment if it had been carried out today
would be £1580.00
