CASE
15 – Full lower overdenture using mini/midi implants
Mrs H from Norton
Mrs
H was referred to CDIC by her own dentist as with age the soft tissues
in her mouth were becoming thinner and less able to support the
full lower denture she was wearing without causing pain.
Mrs
H did not mind wearing a denture but just wanted it to be held in
position and not to rub her gums when it moved. The best option
for Mrs H was to place dental implants and convert her full lower
denture to an overdenture held in place by implants.

| The
mini implant studs, placed without cutting the gum, visible
in the mouth |
The
denture has fitted into it housings that marry up with the
studs on top of the implants and act like “press studs”. |
Requiring
no surgery, four mini implants were placed without cutting her gum
and her present denture adjusted to allow the fitting of the attachments
that clip the denture onto the implants. The denture is now held
very tightly in position and so does not cause ulceration of the
gums.
|
The
studs and housings become invisible when the denture is
in the mouth and hold the denture very firmly in place.
|
Mrs
H reported how pleased she was that her denture was so secure and
that she could eat properly again with out any pain.
The
cost of Mrs H’s treatment if it had been carried out today
would be £2500.00
